Heacham 1 – 0 Gorleston Reserves
Heacham kicked off their first ever, home game in senior football, against a strong Gorleston res side, in perfect conditions with the pitch looking in immaculate condition. Thanks to all who invest their time and expertise into this, from all the players at the club.
It was the visitors who started the brighter, with Heacham looking slightly nervous, in front of their home supporters, who has turned out in force, to watch the clubs first ever game in senior football. After this nervy start the host settled and started find some rhythm and create some chances. The dangerous Nathan Davies cut in and found himself in a great position, but the visiting goalkeeper, made a great save to deny him. It was then John Flanagan who went on a maize run and tested the goalkeeper, who turned his shot around for a corner. Heacham had 6 corners in the first half and had some more opportunities open the scoring, again with the visiting keeper making some notable saves. With Heacham in the ascendency, the half ended 0 – 0.
Heacham started the second half much quicker and pinned into Gorleston’s half for pretty much the Jack Defty was creating all sorts of problems for the visitors with his def touches and quality providing many opportunities for Nathan Davies, John Flanagan, Brad Key and Ben Oliver all of which were well saved by the visiting keeper. The dangerous John Flanagan took the matters into his own hands, cutting in from the left, with a pile driving 30-yard strike which cannoned off the cross bar and straight to Nathan Davies, who again saw well saved. It was then a pinpoint Brad Key delivery, Nathan Davies, who found himself 1 v 1 against the goalkeeper, who again saved brilliantly. With time running out and visitors having a good breakaway chance wasted, the game looked to be heading for a draw as Gorleston were hanging on and dropping deeper and deeper- the game turned into ,attack v defence for the last 15 minutes.
However, the never say die and relentless Heacham pressure, saw them grab a late and much deserved winner from Jack Defty. Jack Defty , was quickest to react to a goalkeeper blunder and kept his cool head, amongst the goal mouth scramble to coolly slot home and send the large home support going home very happy and giving his teammates, a deserved victory against a strong Gorleston Reserves outfit.
